Performance Opportunities

Students enrolled in the NCSM Program will have to follow a curriculum as set by the school.

Teachers will fill out periodic progress reports as the students’ studies progress.

Students are expected to practice their materials at home, come to each lesson fully prepared, and display enthusiastic and positive learning attitudes.

  • Monthly Recitals are provided for NCSM students. Participation is dependent upon teacher’s recommendations. Please see under Current Events for Upcoming Performances. Open to the Public.

  • Faculty Recital
    An Opportunity for students & parents to hear performances by NCSM Faculty. This Recital is Open to the public.

  • Annual Award Recital
    • Goal: To gain performing experiences and to also motivate and encourage students in their musical progress, as well as to build technique and musicality.
    • Eligibility: Open to all qualified NCSM students of all ages and levels of studies which are divided into 6 Group Level Categories. Individual teacher will choose appropriate level placements for each student.
    • Awards: The Judges will select 3 Winners and Honorable Mentions (if applied) from each Level Group. All top 3 winners from each level group will perform at the Honor Recital and will also receive Winning Trophies. All other participants will either received Award Trophies or Certificates depending on their effort and musical excellence/progress throughout the NCSM academic year (September 1, 2005 -August 31, 2006)

  • Honor Recital
    Winners & Faculty Performances: held at the Santa Clara University Recital Hall/Le Petit Trianon. All 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners from each level group of the Annual Award Recital will perform at the Honor Recital. Winners and Honoroble Mentions will received their trophies at the Honor Recital.

  • MTAC/CM Exam, ABRSM Royal Exam, National Guild Auditions.
    All Faculty are members of these organizations. Students can participate on one of these exams once a year upon teacher’s recommendations.
  • Youth Symphony Audition Preparation
    Upon teacher’s recommendations, qualified string, woodwind and other orchestral instrumental students will be prepared & guided for the Youth Symphony Audition.
  • End-of-year Jury (New Requirement-will be enforced in 2006-2007 Academic Year)
    1. Each student is required to complete a once-a-year jury examination. NCSM will provide guidelines for the jury program that students will need to prepare for the examination. Please note that this jury is mandatory. Each student will perform his/her prepared program in front of NCSM faculty. The program will include evaluation of technical abilities as well as completion of pieces as recommended in NCSM’s guidelines.
    2. The examination will be dispersed in several days, and jury schedules will be given to the students approximately one month prior to their examination date.
    3. Students will be evaluated by NCSM faculty members. Students will receive copies of the reports from this jury, which will include comments and recommendations from NCSM faculty members.
    4. Students who pass the jury will be promoted to the next higher level the following year.
    5. Students are expected to meet their progress requirements as stated in NCSM curriculum.
  • Other Performances and Competitions
    NCSM students are encouraged to participate in competitions or concerts outside of the school. Teachers will make recommendation for students who show great potential and enthusiasm in their studies.
NCSM aspires to explore every student’s potential and musical talent. Please remember that communication between students, teachers, and parents are key elements in helping to promote the student's musical growth. Please do not hesitate to talk to the teachers or any of the NCSM directors if a student is facing difficulty during their learning process.
